The Liberty Distillery: When Spirits and Creativity Come Together

For many people, Granville Island is the hub of arts and creativity in Vancouver. This may seem obvious to those who visit the Island often—but as you walk around and observe the different stores and shops, it becomes clear that the Island doesn’t just foster creativity in the performing arts; it also fosters creativity for a variety of man-made crafts. Among these crafts are the spirits made at The Liberty Distillery where much expertise and passion is being drawn upon by their team members to create the best possible product for their customers. And if you’re a Theatre Wire Subscriber, you get to experience all Liberty has to offer—including 20% discount on Distillery tours AND $2 off cocktails!

Enjoying the drinks from The Liberty Distillery is a great experience in and of itself, but the experience is substantially heightened by participating in Liberty’s tasting tours. These tours are led by Liberty staff who enthusiastically educate participants on the Distillery’s history, philosophy, and unique process of creating their signature spirits. Director of Operations, Lisa Simpson, who (along with her husband, Robert) spearheaded the grueling two year process of starting up the Distillery, told us that she has made it a priority that everyone who works at The Liberty Distillery shares the same enthusiasm and curiosity that got this company established in 2010. “We want our team to have fun as they go on this journey with us,” she says. “Since we have such a clearly defined mission, it’s important to hire people who want to be here.”

The Liberty Distillery’s mission is to make no compromise in quality. From the custom-designed copper stills made in Germany, to the spirit experts using their advanced senses for testing, and to the company’s administration making government liquor regulations work to the company’s advantage, their mission continues to be accomplished.
