Dancing Lessons, running October 3-20, will be Naked Goddess’ 10th production in Vancouver! But what you see on stage is only part of the action. Naked Goddess Productions wants to introduce you to three team members who are bringing Dancing Lessons to life:
Sarah Rodgers is a seasoned director who enjoys creating sophisticated productions. Her attention to detail will be very apparent in the overall design of this show, from the clean lines of the set (designed by Ariel Slack) that mimic a dancer’s lines down to the mid-century feel of Senga’s apartment. The colour palette, from decor to costumes, is very specific and is also showcased through the ambiance created by lighting (designed by Taylor Janzen). Sarah is an enthusiastic, generous director and has created a truly engaging production that is brimming with heart, humour, and even a touch of fun naughtiness.
Of course, music plays a very important part in this play and there is a lot of it! Nico Dicecco is Dancing Lessons’ sound designer and he has created a lush soundscape that is fun, moody, heartwarming, and even downright sexy. In addition to creating sound on the spot, Nico is also the stage manager for this production and even threw on another hat by designing the projections for the show. Nico has executed these projections with brilliance, revealing them in an unexpected way, which is sure to delight our audiences.
Melissa Sciarretta is making her choreography debut with this play and is putting the actors through their paces! With a play called Dancing Lessons, some dancing is to be expected! When Senga tries teaching Ever how to dance, Melissa has given some fun and sassy moves. She switches it up with a beautiful contemporary piece for Senga mid-way through the play—and for the closing scene, she has created a lovely number that has a Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire feel. Audiences will be thoroughly entertained by the dancing in this play and will leave the theatre with a smile in their heart.
Check out this video of Melissa teaching the actors, Sandra Medeiros and Andrew Coghlan a dance routine.
