It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of BC Lee, our friend from the cast of Derek Chan’s Chicken Girl (May 2019). BC was an integral part of the development of the play, and as rice & beans’ co-Artistic Director Derek Chan notes, “He truly became everybody’s uncle and brightened up all of our lives.”

BC was so modest about all of his accomplishments, whether travelling to support cultural exchange, leading in his community, or his wealth of language knowledge. He and Derek shared many a joke in Cantonese, and his nuanced questions helped refine the text for the role of Uncle Chan during rehearsal. He brought his philosophy and tremendous work ethic to the ensemble and was truly engaged in the lives of his cast mates. This intergenerational connection was at the heart of the play onstage and off.

PTC offers its condolences to BC’s family, friends and colleagues. We will take his teachings with us always.
